Inter are making preparations for the departure of midfielder Christian Eriksen as early as the beginning of 2022.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Dane could be on his way as early as January due to his health issues.

Eriksen is almost certain to receive confirmation soon that he is not able to remove the Implantable Cardioverter Defibrulator with which he has been fitted since suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s EURO 2020 opener against Finland.

Once this is made certain then the player and club will know that a return to the pitch for the Nerazzurri is not possible due to Italian health and safety regulations.

Eriksen’s wages are currently largely covered for the club by FIFA insurance, but the club will nevertheless want to sit around a table with the 29-year-old and figure out a plan for his future once it is confirmed that he cannot make his playing return.
