Inter will look to bring in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez during the January transfer window if Matias Vecino leaves the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giornale, who report that Vecino could depart in January and that the Nerazzurri would resume their pursuit of his fellow Uruguayan Nandez if this were to be the case.

Vecino’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June 2022, and he has not found an agreement on an extension so looks likely to leave next summer.

However, the 30-year-old could even be on his way as early as January, with the player not having played a significant role in the team so far this season.

Were Vecino to depart, then the Nerazzurri would look to Nandez, a player who had been a major target during the summer transfer window.

Inter had reportedly been close to bringing the versatile 25-year-old in from Cagliari, but talks with the Rossoblu broke down.

However, the Uruguayan is still on the Nerazzurri’s radar and would be their primary target to reinforce the midfield were Vecino to leave the club.
