Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has bemoaned the difficult fixture list that Inter will face during January and February, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media this evening.

Speaking after the 5-0 victory over Salernitana to Sky Sport via L’Interista, Simone Inzaghi proclaimed that no one in Europe has a tougher run of fixtures after the Christmas break than Inter do.

Over the two months Inter will face the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Atalanta, Napoli and Liverpool in the Champions League.

“Seeing how it went, I probably would have wanted the traditional fixture format, even in England they change, but I think we are the only ones in Europe who have had a calendar like this. Both in Italy and abroad we have these direct clashes. Later we will see the progress.”

Speaking of the Champions League tie against Liverpool, Simone Inzaghi admitted that Jurgen Klopp’s side along with Manchester City and Bayern Munich were the teams to avoid in the draw.

“Liverpool, along with City and Bayern, were one of those teams that were best avoided. The draw said that, we’ll see how we get to February, the condition, injuries and so on.

“We wanted to reach the second round, now we will play it in the best possible way, knowing that two years ago they won it, they won six out of six in the group. There will be many pitfalls, but there are two months to go. Our concentration goes to the championship.”

When asked if the break in play over Christmas will help the Inter players catch their breath, the coach said: “We are in an excellent moment, but these guys have never stopped, I think of those who go to the national team and make long journeys.”

Inter beat Salernitana 5-0 on Friday night in Salerno and the gulf in class was clear, but Simone Inzaghi stressed that these games are harder than they look.

“These games, on paper, seem simple. It’s not like that, the boys were very good, I made some changes but they are all involved. We have to continue like this, we are on a great streak, now we have Torino. It will be the ninth game in 25 days.

“I think the growth is continuous, we played excellent football even at the beginning, with the Champions League we lost a few points along the way. Now we are in the lead, we believe in it, but we know that there are many teams equipped, we must continue like this.”
