Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio has said that the players are looking forward to greeting Christian Eriksen at San Siro and giving him a proper send off with the fans, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking to Sky Sport after the 5-0 win over Salernitana, via L’Interista, Danilo D’Ambrosio explained that the whole squad were very affected by what happened to the Danish midfielder who suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark in the summer.

“Christian was an exceptional partner, as well as a player to whom everyone recognised his quality. We can testify that on the human side he has always been a great man.

“We were very affected by what happened. Now the paths have divided, but we want to wait for him at San Siro, greeting him in front of the public.”

His contract with Inter was terminated by mutual consent today as he is prohibited from playing in Italy due to his heart condition.

Inter have now won six games in the bounce and Danilo D’Ambrosio feels that the win over Napoli was the turning point for the Nerazzurri’s season.

“Yes, I agree. But despite the points of difference we have never suffered on any pitch, we have always dominated the games. We weren’t so concrete, the merit goes to the team if we don’t concede. Thanks to all, the attackers are the first defenders.”

Napoli and AC Milan play each other this weekend and the defender feels that Inter just have to focus on winning their own matches, saying: “When there are these direct clashes, our duty was to score three points, regardless of the result of others we would have earned points. The first step was to win and we did it.”

The Italian has a bit-part role in Simone Inzaghi’s team but he is okay with this, saying: “It is normal that those who play more have rhythm, have an advantage, have memorised plays.

“The role of the player, I have always said since I was young, we are professionals and we think about training, the choices are made by the coach. Alone. So then you take the field and give a positive performance.”
