Midfielder Arturo Vidal is set to start for Inter in Wednesday’s Serie A clash with Torino, in place of the suspended Nicolo Barella.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the match will be seen as a test for the Chilean who could also start in the first leg of the Champions League tie with Liverpool for which Barella is also suspended.

Barella picked up a yellow card during the first half of Friday’s win over Salernitana, getting himself suspended for Wednesday’s match through an accumulation of bookings in the process.

Vidal is the likeliest player to start in his place, and coach Simone Inzaghi will be curious to see how his team copes without Barella in anticipation of their Champions League round of sixteen tie in February.

The 34-year-old has impressed with some of his performances especially earlier in the season and is likelier to be the player relied upon to fill in for Barella than Roberto Gagliardini, Stefano Sensi, or Matias Vecino.

Wednesday’s match could give the coach some idea of the Chilean’s suitability for the role and how the team plays with him in place of Barella.
