Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola believes that the current Nerazzurri team is one of the best to have turned out for the club in the modern era.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, the former striker named this Inter side as one of the best over the past two decades, and also suggested that they had around a 25% chance of progressing from their Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool.

Inter have had ups and downs over the past twenty or so years, winning multiple Scudetti under the likes of Roberto Mancini and Antonio Conte, and a European treble with Jose Mourinho.

However, the team has also experienced years in the relatively wilderness of Serie A midtable, and periods somewhere in between these two extremes.

At the beginning of this season it was far from clear how this iteration of the team would end up on this historic scale given the tumultuous summer following last campaign’s Scudetto triumph.

However, the form of the last months has exceeded all but the most optimistic expectations.

Ventola gave his thoughts on this Inter side, stating that “Inzaghi can choose between three starting-quality players in attack.”

“Inter has a new quality thanks to the growth of Calhanoglu after the derby,” he went on. “Inter started well but still seemed to be lacking some understanding.”

“Then the Turkish player grew and the team seemed to bring together quality and understanding,” he went on. “This is one of the best Inter sides of the last twenty years.”

And on the tie against Liverpool he stated that “The Inter defenders are good, but Liverpool are the worst customers you can come across.”

“You cannot stay high up the pitch because they will outpace you, but if you drop deeper then sooner or later they’ll find a way,” he added. “I say 75% to 25% in Liverpool’s favour.”
