Former Roma, Sassuolo, and Empoli midfielder Matteo Brighi believes that Inter improved over the summer because any losses in the transfer market were offset by the appointment of Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking to Italian news outlet JuventusNews24, Brighi named the Nerazzurri as favourites for the Scudetto and attributed this to how well they’ve coped since the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri were expected to have a tricky summer due to their financial issues, with at least one player expected to follow talismanic head coach Antonio Conte out the door.

Achraf Hakimi was sold to Paris Saint-Germain in a move that was widely anticipated, but then came the shock sale of Romelu Lukaku in August, all of which was compounded by the loss of Christian Eriksen due to health problems.

Replacing the quartet of Conte, Hakimi, Lukaku, and Eriksen was never going to be easy, but Inter worked quickly to shore up every position on the pitch and, perhaps most importantly of all, brought in what looks to be the right coach in the form of Inzaghi.

On the favourites for the Scudetto, Brigh stated that “At the moment I would say Inter, who in any case have not lost very much considering the summer transfer window they had.”

“In addition,” he added,  “Inzaghi has also added significantly to the team.”
