Inter defender Aleksandar Kolarov could depart from the club during the January transfer window, but only if a replacement is found on a free transfer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri would be ready to let the Serb leave if a suitable replacement is identified.

Kolarov has not played much this season, clearly at the back of the pecking order in the defense, and the Nerazzurri would not stand in the way of his leaving.

Before this could happen, however, a plan would have to be in place to bring in a player who could take the 36-year-old’s place in the defensive rotation.

The Nerazzurri will not spend significantly on a replacement for Kolarov during the January window, and so would likely only pursue a player available on a free transfer.

Should no replacement arrive then the former Roma and Manchester City defender would stay until the end of the season.
