Inter are working towards extending Ivan Perisic’s contract past next summer, but there is still significant distance between them and the 32-year-old before an agreement can be found.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the player is seeking a wage increase while the Nerazzurri are only offering a renewal on reduced salary terms.

Perisic’s form this season has meant that the Nerazzurri are increasingly hoping to be able to keep him on past the end of his current deal, which expires at the end of June 2022.

However, the highest that the club will currently go with their offer is a net of €4 million, whereas the player is still hopeful of a salary increase.

At the beginning of the season, it had been the Croat’s hope to return to the Bundesliga on a free transfer, but things are now more up in the air given his form this season.

Inter are now pushing to keep Perisic in the team for at least another season, while the player’s salary demands are increasing based on his form this campaign which could also make reaching an agreement to join a German team difficult.
