Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that they key difference between Inter and their Scudetto rivals Atalanta concerns the rate at which they concede goals this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marani highlighted the difference between the defensive records of the two sides in recent matches.

Inter have had the most prolific attack in Serie A this season, with 48 goals from their first seventeen matches of the campaign, but it is La Dei who sit behind them in the scoring charts with 38.

Both Lombard sides have shown that they can find the back of the net with ease against virtually any opposition, but in recent weeks it has been their goals conceded which have clearly differentiated them.

In Inter’s case, impressive attacking displays have been married to effective defensive efforts over the past few matches, with the Nerazzurri having gone five matches without conceding a goal.

Atalanta, meanwhile, find clean sheets harder to come by, a point emphasized by the four goals shipped against Roma yesterday.

Marani stated that “Atalanta have conceded eight goals in their last three games, most of them from losses of possession which have caught out the midfield line.”

“The big difference with Inter is that Inzaghi’s team have conceded zero goals in their last five,” he added.
