Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is impressed with how Inter have coped this season following the loss of Romelu Lukaku over the summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 63-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri are the most solid team in Serie A right now and also expressed his surprise that they have hardly missed a beat following the Belgian’s departure.

Lukaku had been an extremely important player for Inter last season, leading the team in both goals and assists on the way to the Scudetto.

The Belgian’s shock sale to Chelsea in August rocked the Nerazzurri and led many to question how the club would be able to maintain anything like their level from last campaign in his absence.

So for this season Inter have looked solid without Lukaku, however, and this has been noticed by the coach of one of their main Scudetto rivals.

“Inter have a greater solidity than everyone else in the league, which you can see in them being top of the table,” he stated.

On whether he expected this he stated that “No, honestly I thought that the loss of Romelu Lukaku could have proved decisive, but Simone Inzaghi has done very well compensating in terms of the overall team.”
