Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi knows that the job is far from done for his team despite a positive first half of the season.

Speaking in a press conference after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Torino, as reported by FCInterNews, the Italian tactician emphasized that his team are continuing to work hard and not rest on their laurels.

Inter are now four points clear at the top of the Serie A table after having been seven points behind at the start of the last break in the season.

Inzaghi has seen his team find their best form of the campaign right as Napoli and AC Milan have begun to falter, and they have quickly made up the deficit and are starting to establish a gap of their own at the top of the table.

However, the team are not becoming complacent or taking anything for granted, as they understand well that their advantage can disappear just as quickly as it was built should they not work to protect it.

“It is normal to think about still improving,” Inzaghi stated, “we have a long journey ahead of us and it will be full of potential pitfalls.”

“I am happy with the squad,” he added, “we suffered from some injuiry but I think it is very important for a coach to always be able to get a response from those who play.”

“Our goal was reaching the round of sixteen of the Champions League and qualifying for it next year as well,” he continued.

“I didn’t speak to the team at first,” he added. “I felt very welcomed from the first day. We had an excellent first half of the season but we still have many matches ahead of us where we have to give our best.”

“The guys are training with conviction every time,” he went on. “This conviction has also been shown in the way that the team has played, despite some dropped points I have always seen them play very well since August 20 [Inter’s first match of the campaign against Genoa].”

“The first half of the season has been excellent for several reasons,” Inzaghi stated, “the guys have all shown that they deserve to play, though only sixteen can play in a match.”

“And then the fans have been wonderful,” he continued, stating that “they push us on at the San Siro and they make sure we never feel alone when we’re away.”

“And then,” added, “the club has always supported me and been very straightforward to deal with. We needed to secure the club with significant sales, but we maintained solidity.”
