Legendary former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs former Inter captain Javier Zanetti to be the most difficult opponent he’s come up against in football.

Speaking to Manchester United TV, as reported by FCInterNews, the Welshman named Zanetti as the best player he faced in his career and stressed the Argentine’s completeness as a player as well as his physicality.

Both Giggs and Zanetti are players who have been notable for their longevity as well as the amount of time that they spent establishing themselves at a major European clubs.

Moreover, with Zanetti playing as a full-back for much of his Inter career and Giggs having usually played on the wing, it was inevitable that they tested each other on a number of occasions throughout their careers.

For the Welshman, Zanetti was the player who impressed him most and made life most difficult for him while he was playing.

He called Zanetti “The toughest opponent I facedt. He was running all the time.”

“Having also played in midfield, he also knew what to do when he had the ball,” Giggs added. “He knew how to defend, he was physically strong, he even broke my nose during a Champions League quarter-final.”

“As a defender, Zanetti had absolutely everything,” he concluded.
