Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has emplored Marcelo Brozovic to sign a new contract with the club whilst also expressing interest in Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Simone Inzaghi showed how desperate he is to see Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic sign a new contract at the club.

“First of all Brozo has to hurry up and sign! He is an extraordinary player on the pitch, he has been making Inter fortunes for years. The same goes for Perisic’s signing.”

The coach also had praise for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez who has been linked with a move to the club very regularly over the last year.

“Nandez is an interesting player, a flexible profile, he could be good. I don’t want to talk about names, society is vigilant. If there is an opportunity, it will be right to take it.”

Inter now sit top of the Serie A table with a four point lead over city rivals AC Milan, but Simone Inzaghi claims he has had confidence in the team since July.

“I was calm even in October, even when we were far from the summit. I’ll say more, we had already believed in it since July, from the day of the first training session. Now it suits so many that we are the favourites, that we are a battleship. But I knew it even then that we could have done well.”

Many have held up the 3-2 win over Napoli earlier this season as the turning point in Inter’s campaign but Simone Inzaghi feels that even if that game was a draw, they would still have found this form.

“The victory over Napoli gave great awareness, but from what I saw in training, even if it ended 3-3 it wouldn’t have changed much. The road was drawn.

“Milan and Naples are the ones that have changed less, but in the Scudetto race I also put Atalanta and Juve inside. An opponent to be taken into consideration. This is an unpredictable championship. We are at a good point, but what we have done so far must only be a stimulus to start again after the break.”

Inter’s lowest ebb this season came in defeat away at Simone Inzaghi’s old side, Lazio. He feels this was a very important moment, saying: “I have understood this in recent years, after a defeat you sometimes come out stronger. We worked a lot on preventive scoring, in keeping the team tight.”

Inter have a tough fixture list coming in January and February on which Simone Inzaghi said: “In my head Liverpool was in first place among the teams to avoid, along with Manchester City. It will be very hard, but also a beautiful challenge to play. These teams always give you the idea that you can play it, that you can score against them. And instead they punish you. But we’ll get there ready.”

Inter’s depth has been impressive and Simone Inzaghi highlights Andrea Ranocchia and Roberto Gagliardini in that: “If I have to say a name, I reply Ranocchia. But it is a question that also concerns others. By training Gagliardini, I understood why he found so much space with Spalletti first and then with Conte. When I turn around on the bench, I can choose with my eyes closed.”

Simone Inzaghi also offered his thoughts on the sighing of Edin Dzeko and how to get the best out of Martin Satriano: “When we understood that Lukaku was going to leave, that same evening I spoke to Marotta and Ausilio and I mentioned Dzeko’s name to them. They replied, ‘you open an open door with us, we have long wanted to bring him here’.

“January? Last summer the first goal was to secure the club, now we have to try to see. All the teams are strengthened, basically. My priority would be to keep everyone.

“Let’s see with Satriano, the other four forwards I would like to keep them all, then we have to understand in between or on the outside if we can find how to improve and maybe understand if any player who after these first 25 games has played less, now feels they should go.”

The coach also revealed he has a good relationship with Steven Zhang: “Every week we hear from each other via text. He is not here with us physically, but I feel him very close to the Inter family, we have a great relationship.”
