Italian journalist Luca Marchetti has suggested that Simone Inzaghi has earned himself an extra drink after his efforts during the first half of the season, according to a report in the Italian media.

Whilst writing his article for Tuttomercatoweb, via FCInter1908, Luca Marchetti initially discussed the balanced nature of this Inter team which is so lethal in attack but has also now not conceded in six consecutive Serie A matches.

“The strength of Inzaghi’s team is not only the attack so that in the calendar year he scored 104 goals, but also the defence, by now. The Nerazzurri have only lost once in the league, they have lost points at the beginning it is true, but they have been able to react well with great mental strength.”

Those goals and the increased defensive stability means that Inter ends 2021 sitting top of the Serie A table with a four point lead over AC Milan.

Inter came into the match against Napoli some weeks ago knowing that if they lost, they would be 10 points behind Luciano Spalletti’s side.

According to Luca Marchetti, this overturning of the deficit in Inter’s favour is why Simone Inzaghi must not burst the competitive bubble that the team is in, but he can give himself an extra drink over Christmas.

“He recovered a chasm in Milan and Naples and is now preparing to live next year with great confidence despite the fact that Inzaghi himself knows that nothing has been done yet and that then there is not only the now-infamous asymmetrical calendar on the horizon.

“With Lazio, Atalanta, Milan and Napoli and right before the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 with Liverpool for a very high-tension February. This is why Inter is enjoying this 2021, they know they will have to do just as well and have all the qualities to be able to continue on this path.

“Inzaghi does well not to relax the tension, but during these days off he can give himself an extra glass.”
