Inter will be prioritizing renewing the contracts of players already in the squad over the January transfer window rather than bringing new signings in.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reported on air that the focus at the Nerazzurri next month will be on securing the futures of key squad members whose current deals are running out.

Inter’s squad has hardly looked insufficient over the first half of the campaign, with the team reaching the summit of the Serie A table and the knockouts of the Champions League with the players it already has.

Some reinforcements could still arrive in the January transfer market, especially in the event of any departures, but as Di Marzio makes clear, the team’s real priority will be on seeing the players who have gotten them this far commit their futures.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to keep the momentum of the project going rather than making major alterations.

“The symbolic status of ‘winter champions’ confirms the sense at the Nerazzurri that the team that they’ve built across previous windows is competitive,” Di Marzio explained.

He went on that “If there are no sales (Vecino could decide to leave and in this case he would be replaced) or opportunities that come along during the window, Inter will not make any signings during the window, focusing instead on the renewals of expiring players in the squad.”
