Milan Mayor Beppe Sala feels that while there could still be a dialogue around the new stadium in Milan, there is little purpose as long as Inter and AC Milan are committed on moving out of the San Siro.

Speaking while visiting the Opera San Francesco, as reported by FCInterNews, Sala emphasized that at this point there does not look to be much hope of persuading the clubs against their plans.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are pressing forwards on plans to build a new stadium in Milan, something which they feel will be necessary to modernize their infrastructure and increase revenues.

The teams have secured approval from the city council and from Sala after the civic elections held in October, and they have now settled on a design and on a timeline for the completion of construction.

However, opposition remains to their plans, especially from those opposed to the proposed demolition of the San Siro.

“On the issue of the new stadium it seems to me that both the continued work of the council and public debate are worthwhile, we must have debate,” Sala stated.

He went on that “With respect to this, I have asked for two things. The first is that I have already given approval to the project, and this must be respected.”

“And then the committees must convince me but also convince the teams,” he went on, “something that I have not been able to do in two years.”
