Napoli & Parma Legend Gianfranco Zola: “Inter Are In Excellent Form, Simone Inzaghi Has Done Well”

Legendary former Napoli, Parma, and Chelsea midfielder Gianfranco Zola is impressed with the work done by Simone Inzaghi to guide Inter to where they are now.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Le Repubblica in an interview published in today’s print edition, Zola named the Nerazzurri as Scudetto favourites and credited Inzaghi for bringing the team to their current level.

Inter came into the season with mixed expectations, with most of the players who won the Scudetto last campaign still part of the team but key departures in the summer leaving their level up in the air.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, and the stricken Christian Eriksen have been replaced well, but equally importantly, coach Inzaghi has taken over well from the departed Antonio Conte since his summer arrival from Lazio.

Rather than looking to only build on the work left for him by Conte, the 45-year-old has brought his own ideas to the team and gotten them into blistering form.

Zola stated that Inter are “Running in fine form, and with excellent players. Simone Inzaghi has done very well, after losing Lukaku and Hakimi it would not have been easy for anyone to get back to the top going at this pace.”

He went on that “I’m very happy to see Nicolo Barella continuing to prove himself. If you win Scudetto and the European championship and make the Ballon D’or shortlist in a single year, there’s little to say.”
