Former AC Milan Walter Novellino believes that the depth and quality of Inter’s squad has been a big factor in their resurgent form.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercattoWeb, the 68-year-old noted that the Nerazzurri’s large squad gave them a platform to go on the winning run that saw them claw their way back to the top of the Serie A table.

Coming back into the Scudetto race always looked as though it would be a difficult task for Inter, who found themselves seven points back from both AC Milan and Napoli.

However, the Nerazzurri found their best form of the season with seven wins from seven in the league going into the winter break right as the Rossoneri and the Partenopei stumbled.

Both Milan and Napoli can partly point to injuries and other absences as a reason why they could not keep up their blistering pace from earlier in the season, while Inter proved capable of consistent performances and results even while dealing with injuries.

“Inter managed to come back from a number of points back,” Novellino stated, “and a lot of this had to do with their large squad.”
