Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is in favour of the idea of expelling newly-promoted Salernitana based on their shared ownership with Lazio.

This according to current Leeds and former Fiorentina director Sandro Mencucci, as reported by L’Interista, who stated that the Nerazzurri executive proposed this as a plan.

Salernitana achieved automatic promotion to the Italian top flight by finishing second in Serie B behind champions Empoli.

However, their situation has been a problem with the league regulations that two teams cannot share a single owner, given that they are owned by Claudio Lotito who also owns established Serie A side Lazio.

Lotito has been attempting to find a buyer for Salernitana so that the Campanian club can stay in the top flight per the regulations, but given that he has thus far been unable to, it could be the case that they are sent back to Serie B.

According to Mencucci, Inter CEO Marotta favours this idea.

He stated that “It is my understanding that the Lega Serie A are now pushing for their expulsion, with this idea having been proposed by Beppe Marotta.”
