Former Inter, Hellas Verona, and Juventus midfielder Roberto Tricella has been very impressed by the growth of current Nerazzurri star Nicolo Barella.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 62-year-old hailed the way that Barella has made his more complete in recent seasons.

Barella already looked like a significant talent when he joined Inter from Cagliari in the summer of 2019.

The then-22-year-old had become an experienced player in Serie A even at a young age, and had looked adept playing mostly in a deep role in the team.

Moving to the Nerazzurri, however, the young midfielder found that the tactical demands for his position were greater and he had to add to his game, season upon season.

The 24-year-old has done that, and this campaign has even looked to have more creative influence on the team than ever, becoming more and more prolific at assisting goals and incisive with his passing.

“Barella is a complete midfielder,” Tricella stated, “he does very well in both the attacking and defending phases, and plays with clear-headedness and confidence.”

He went on that Barella is “In great form physically and mentally, he has grown up and is now at a high level he doesn’t want to let it drop.”

“For me this has been the biggest surprise in the last 2-3 years in Italian football,” he concluded, “he has improved tactically but also technically.”
