Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that Inter are now an especially enjoyable side to watch under Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking to Gianluca Rossi’s YouTube channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former President praised the current Nerazzurri coach and gave his thoughts on some other matters at the club.

Over the first half of the campaign, Inter have shown that they can chase the second Scudetto in a row as the favourites and also maintain a high level of football while doing so.

Coach Inzaghi has acquitted himself well in his environment and proved to be the right fit after some initial doubts about whether he would be able to easily make the transition from coaching Lazio.

Moratti is a fan of what he’s seeing, and feels that right now is a very enjoyable time to be an Inter fan.

“I really think I’m enjoying myself,” he said. “From the start Inzaghi made it clear that he would get the team playing well.”

“He kept his promise, because the team are playing better and better,” he added.

“And having the whole squad available, he also has the possibility, especially with the five changes available, to have fresh players in the game,” he continued.

Moratti said that “He is making the most of the new rules, congratulations to Inzaghi because when you go to the stadium this team is fun to watch.”

On the possibility of another Scudetto, he said that “It would be the right time and I think Inter can easily compete to win the Scudetto. We hope it will arrive soon.”

Regarding the departure of former head coach Antonio Conte over the summer, he stated that “Perhaps he did not feel that the club were adequately prepared to build for the future.”

“Those in charge either did not win his trust or did not respond adequately, so he decided that he wanted to leave and walked away,” he went on.

“He misjudged Inter because he placed too little value in what was already there,” Moratti stated of Conte.

“We all thought that the exits of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi were the reason for his exit,” he went on, “but in reality Inzaghi and Marotta have made us understand that with some adjustments the team works the same and even better.”

He added that “Conte has taken the next step which will serve him well because he is at Tottenham now, but he could have avoided doing it like this.”

On players in the current Inter team who he feels could have fit in in his own Inter side he named “Certainly Nicolo Barella, he reminds me of Nicola Berti even if not entirely.”

“I don’t mind Lautaro Martinez because he has great class even if it doesn’t always show through at 100%,” he added.

“The rest are also great,” the former President continued, “Edin Dzeko is a pleasure to watch, the defense is strong, Marcelo Brozovic has shown incredible growth.”

“He had tried many roles and now he is frankly excellent,” he said of the midfielder, who is “humble and is playing at an incredible level.”

Of President Steven Zhang, he said that “I haven’t heard from him lately because he lives in China. I must say that everything he has done has always shown respect for Inter that his family has always had.”

“And precisely for this respect, I imagine he will look around to see if there is anyone who can better support the club in this situation. We have to get used to this,” he continued.

On the failed Super League project, Moratti stated that “UEFA also took a beating of its own.”

“This may be the need for some teams, but with certain competitions you must do a good job of preparing them but you must also involve the membership of a lot of teams,” he continued.

Regarding the InterSpac project for fan ownership at the Nerazzurri, he stated that “I believe that it is one thing to organize among fans to try to participate and have a voice in the team, and another to try and buy the club which is huge and difficult to manage.”

“I could participate,” he went on, “they are very flattering to me and it is understandable that my intervention could be decisive. But at this moment it is not possible.”

On the possibility of another Moratti in a prominent role at Inter, he replied “Who knows… maybe my children?”

“They are fans and they love Inter,” he went on, “and this is the important thing, but this does not change the fact that things only happen when the time is right for them.”

“I was in charge when the circumstances were right for it,” he continued. “Whether right or wrong, because even at the time it could be considered crazy, but it was all something that the circumstances were in place for.”

“Now the scale of the club could make it difficult,” he added, “so I leave it to them for the future. But ownership by an Italian family again appears far away.”

Reflecting on his time in charge of the club, Moratti stated that “Certainly the treble was the greatest joy that the club gave me.”

“It was an effort and a sacrifice on the part of the players, who showed great commitment of the kind that still makes me grateful to these guys and to the manager,” he went on.

“And if we talk about other beautiful moments, I found Ronaldo’s first year very stimulating,” he went on, “it was a team that started something that could have lasted a long time and have been beautiful and instead was cut short.”

“But it was still a very emotional moment,” he added. “They were two very good seasons, and Inter gave me many: every match, all the effort and the different players, the emotion of the fans, I have always appreciated it very much.”
