Inter defender Stefan de Vrij feels that his club and international teammate Denzel Dumfries is a player with great perseverance.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 29-year-old spoke about how Dumfries keeps working to achieve his goals no matter what.

Dumfries arrived at Inter this summer from PSV, with the club settling on the 25-year-old as the right man to replace Achraf Hakimi following the Moroccan’s sale to Paris Saint-Germain.

Over the first couple months of the season, the wing-back showed flashes of his quality but not consistency, not yet cementing a place for himself in the starting eleven.

However, as the season has worn on he looks to have found his feet in a Nerazzurri shirt, especially since the injury to Matteo Darmian, and he has put in an exceptional run of games.

De Vrij works with Dumfries in training for both club and country, and he is not surprised to see this quick growth based on the attitude and hard work that he sees from his teammate.

“I think it’s brilliant how he’s never given up,” the defender stated. “He began his international career playing for Aruba, but then he gave up paying for them because he knew he wanted to begin playing for Holland.”

“Now I work with Denzel up close every day and I can see the willpower that has taken him this far,” he added.
