Current Tottneham Hotspur and former Inter coach Antonio Conte believes that the Nerazzurri have now established themselves as the dominant side in Serie A.

Speaking to UK news outlet Sky Sports, the Italian tactician highlighted the groundwork that his former side have to keep themselves at the top of the Italian top flight.

Last season Conte guided the Nerazzurri to their first Scudetto in eleven years, with the triumph a culmination of several years of gradual development and growth.

The former Juventus, Italy, and Chelsea boss spent two years at the club building the team up into a unit that could finally topple Juventus’s nine-year run of Scudetti.

However, Conte left shortly after the Scudetto triumph and was followed out the door by key players Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku as well as by the loss of Christian Eriksen due to health reasons.

This led some to predict that the Nerazzurri’s level would fall off, but instead, the addition of new coach Simone Inzaghi and several summer signings has quickly brought the team back to being favourites to defend last season’s Scudetto crown.

“The team has laid the foundations to stay at the top for many years to come,” the coach stated. “Now it will be up to the other sides to try and catch them.”

Conte also joked that “Maybe one day I’ll return to Serie A to upset the established order again,” referring to his winning the Scudetto after long periods without one while in charge of Juventus and Inter.
