Legendary former AC Milan head coach Fabio Capello believes that Inter are the clear favourites to win the Scudetto this season.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former coach gave the view that the Nerazzurri are the strongest team in Serie A and also singled out Hakan Calhanoglu for praise for his role in the team’s midfield.
The Nerazzurri have been the form team in Italy since the return from the November international break, collecting 21 points out of a possible 21 to surge to the top of the table.
Inter have faced a variety of different opponents and looked like they had all the answers, extending their winning streak all the way up to the winter break.
The form team of summer signings such as Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries as well as the work of coach Simone Inzaghi looks to have the team on the right path to defend last season’s Scudetto crown.
“They worked very well in the transfer window,” Capello stated. “I put Inter as favourites for the Scudetto along with Juve and Napoli.”
“Inter have remained my favourites because they have the same defense, the same goalkeeper, and the same midfield which has been improved by Calhanoglu, who is playing at a very high level,” he added.
“They have signed quality players,” the coach said of Inter, “it must also be mentioned that they appointed a smart coach who did not overturn everything but has brought new motivation to his players.”
He concluded that “Everyone said they only won because Conte, Lukaku and Hakimi, instead they’re doing it all over again.”
