Inter target Matthias Ginter has confirmed that he will leave Borussia Monchengladbach next summer.

Writing in an Instagram post, the defender stated that negotiations with his club are over and that he will not extend his current contract with the German side.

Ginter’s current deal with Gladbach is set to run out at the end of June 2022, and now that he is not set to renew with the Bundesliga side, he can join another club on a free transfer next summer.

Inter have been among the clubs most strongly linked to the 28-year-old, who they consider to be a candidate to strengthen their defense in the coming seasons, and not a player who will require any investment in a transfer fee.

However, the Nerazzurri are likely to face competition for Ginter’s signature from a number of other clubs interested in bringing the German in on a free transfer, and it remains to be seen if they can win the race to sign him.

He writes that “After several rounds of negotiations, I have decided not to extend my contract which expires this summer.”

“It is very difficult for me to take this step after five great years at Borussia Monchengladbach, but I have decided to choose another path in my career for my personal and professional growth,” he goes on.

“I owe a lot to Borussia and I will always have the club and its fans in my heart,” he adds. “Now let’s focus on the second part of the season. Those who know me know that I will give everything to achieve all our goals together.”
