Former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he wants to return to the club and not at the end of his career, but in his prime, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview broadcast by Sky Sport, via FCInter1908, the now Chelsea striker was extremely open whilst talking about why he left Inter and how he wants to return to the club in the not too distant future.

“First, I want to apologize to the Inter fans. The way I left, it had to be another way than it did. I had to talk to you fans first because the things you did for me, for my family, for my mother, for my son, these are things that remain for me forever.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart to return to Inter not at the end of my career but at a level that is still good to hope to win more.”

Romelu Lukaku joined Inter in the summer for around €115 million and has struggled with an injury since returning to the Premier League. When fit though, he has been scoring goals.

He expressed some upset at the system change that Thomas Tuchel has had at Chelsea this season that had not been hugely beneficial to the Belgian striker.

“Physically I’m fine, even better than before. This is something that, after two years in Italy where I worked a lot with the Inter team and the trainers, will stay with me forever.

“I’m not happy with the situation at Chelsea, it’s normal. I think the coach has made a choice, has changed set-up but I can’t give up, I continue to work, I’m a professional.

“I’m not happy, it’s normal, but I’m a worker and I wont give up.”

Romelu Lukaku clearly is not happy with the way his move away from Inter came about as it was very sudden towards the end of the transfer window. Many Inter fans felt betrayed as he looked set to stay at the club.

“It’s been a lifetime since last summer. Everything has happened. It shouldn’t have gone as it did, the way I left Inter. The way I communicated with the fans, it bothers me.

“It is not the right time now but not even when I left the time was right.

“Now it’s right to talk, I have Inter in my heart and I’ll go back to play there. I really hope so. I’m in love with Italy, this is the time to talk and let people know what really happened without speaking ill of people because I’m not like that.”
