Inter have lined up Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter on a free transfer for next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the club see the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Stefan de Vrij in the team.

Ginter has announced that he will not extend the contract he has with Gladbach, which runs out at the end of June 2022, and will seek a new club during the summer transfer window.

A number of clubs look to be interested in signing the German, with Barcelona and teams in the Premier League among his suitors.

However, the Nerazzurri look to be the most interested in bringing Ginter in, especially in the event that de Vrij leaves the club next summer.

The Dutchman’s contract runs out at the end of June 2023, but he could leave one year before then if the club cannot agree on an extension with him and wish to monetize his sale, and they would see Ginter as the perfect replacement.
