Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has admitted that the fate of the Scudetto is in Inter’s hands this season rather than AC Milan’s, according to a report in the Italian print media.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marco Amelia did have praise for his former side, explaining that they are a competitive team but the best they can do right now is to stay close to Inter and hope that the Nerazzurri slip up.

“Milan are competitive and they have amply demonstrated it: it’s true, Inter are doing very well at the moment and for the Rossoneri, it will be essential to be able to stay close and try to take advantage of any possible misstep of the leaders. The Rossoneri have the qualities so as not to miss the opportunity.”

One interesting element to the second half of the season is that Inter will have to contend with a Champions League Round of 16 tie against Liverpool very soon whereas AC Milan have no European matches.

They can focus entirely on their Serie A efforts which Marco Amelia feels could be an important factor for the Serie A title race.

“Playing only one match a week can further facilitate them, especially in the rotation of the squad and in the risk of injuries. But everything will depend on Inter: I repeat, stay close and ready to take advantage of a possible misstep.”

Inter currently sits four points ahead of AC Milan in the Serie A table.
