Ex-Nerazzurri Midfielder Antonio Sabato: “I’d Gladly Have Romelu Lukaku Back At Inter”

Former Inter midfielder Antonio Sabato feels that the club should not preclude the possibility of a return for striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 63-year-old stated that he’d welcome the Belgium back at the Nerazzurri in spite of his controversial move to the Premier League over the summer.

Lukaku was sold to Chelsea in August in a transfer that carried the second highest fee of the window, which reflected the significance of the move for both clubs involved.

However, the 28-year-old has not yet settled in London, and in a candid recent interview with Sky Sport Italia, he stated that he regrets leaving the Nerazzurri and would like to return.

This has prompted speculation that the Belgian could make a sensational return to the Giuseppe Meazza, and while some fans would not want to see the striker back, Sabato disagrees with this view.

“I don’t agree with that position,” he stated, “the club had to balance themselves financially and the right players to sell in order to make money were he and Hakimi.”

He continued that “Inter settled the balance sheet and got back on their feet.  How can you blame them? Would people rather they had sold 6-7 players?”

“We would not be in the situation we’re in now,” he argued. “I would definitely bring him back immediately, even though this looks to be difficult financially.”
