Inter striker Lautaro Martinez comes into Thursday’s Serie A clash with Bologna with a precedent of having always been on target in the Nerazzurri’s first match of a calendar year.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who note that the 24-year-old could keep this streak alive with a goal against the Rossoblu on Thursday.

During Martinez’s first season with the Nerazzurri, the 2018-19 season, his first match back from the winter break was a Coppa Italia match against Benevento, wherein the Argentine found the back of the net in a 6-2 win.

The next two seasons with the club, the striker was on target for the club in Serie A clashes, scoring against Napoli in a 3-1 win for his first match of 2020, and then in a 6-2 win over Crotone for his first match of 2021.

The Argentine has already scored eleven goals in Serie A this season, and he will be hoping that he can keep the attacking momentum going straightaway in the new year.
