Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that Lautaro Martinez has emerged in a real leadership role at Inter this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marani praised the Argentine striker for becoming a more vocal presence, as well as highlighting the contributions of Hakan Calhanoglu so far this campaign.

Martinez is now halfway through his fourth season as an Inter player, and he is no longer the player he was wen he joined during the summer of 2018.

The 24-year-old has begun maturing, and his teammates have also begun looking to him more as he has become a more established presence in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“For the Nerazzurri,” Marani said, “Lautaro has already become a real leader.”

He also spoke about the situation of Romelu Lukaku, unsettled at Chelsea and wanting a return to Inter, stating that “I don’t think that Inter can afford to bring back Lukaku, given the finances involved. However, there’s no denying that a big story has come up.”

Marani also suggested that the summer move of Hakan Calhanoglu from AC Milan to Inter has been decisive for both clubs so far in the campaign.

“I know that this will divide opinions,” he stated, “but I think that the loss of Hakan Calhanoglu has been big for AC Milan even if many fans don’t miss him.”

“Last season he was decisive in the first part of the campaign for the Rossoneri,” the journalist added, “and now we see that he is making the difference at Inter.”
