Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that former head coach Antonio Conte still deserves a lot of credit for the Nerazzurri’s success this season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, Adani gave the view that the current Tottenham coach’s fingerprints can still be seen on this Inter team.

Inter have had to adapt and evolve under Simone Inzaghi this season, especially given the significant incomings and outgoings over the summer.

The style of play has changed, while certain players have seen their roles in the team change.

However, the spine of this Inter side is still the one that worked under Conte for two seasons, with many of these players having really come into their own under his watch.

Adani feels that the Nerazzurri have found success by moving on just enough from the style of play that Conte instituted to avoid getting stale.

“Simone Inzaghi’s Inter would hardly exist without Antonio Conte,” he stated. “The latter had a tremendous impact on the discipline and personality of these players. He improved them mentally, tactically ,and technically.”

“Look for example Barella, Bastoni, and also Perisic,” he added.

Adani characterized Inzaghi as “Having done well not to put the team off track from the path they were already on,  and for giving the players more freedom to improvise in matches.”

“Simone rigorously prepares for the game,” he explained, “and then he gives them so many variations on the pitch that he encourages the players to find the best solutions in every given moment.”
