Inter are ready to sign Lazio defender Felipe Luiz on a free transfer next summer should Stefan de Vrij be sold.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 24-year-old is the Nerazzurri’s chief target should de Vrij leave the club.

De Vrij’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June 2023, and the club have not yet started renewal talks with the Dutchman.

Should the talks not progress towards an agreement, the Nerazzurri could decide to sell de Vrij next summer for a significant capital gain rather than allowing to leave for free at the end of his contract.

Inter have moved past Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger as a target to replace the 29-year-old, with the German demanding too much in wages, but have turned their attention firmly to Felipe.

The Brazilian has worked successfully with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi while they were at Lazio together, and the coach would be happy to reunite with the player.

Meanwhile, Mathias Ginter looks set to arrive from Borussia Monchengladbach regardless of whether de Vrij stays or leaves in the summer.
