Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that Inter should prioritize a player who can back up Marcelo Brozovic in their squad.

Writing in his column for Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Biasin argued that depth in the deep-lying midfield position is the clearest area of need for the Nerazzurri.

Inter have a wealth of midfield options in their squad, but Brozovic is nevertheless used almost all the time, as no other player in the team has the 29-year-old’s qualities in the buildup phase.

An injury or suspension to the Croat could hamper the team’s style of play, while coach Simone Inzaghi faces a tough decision as to how much he plays the midfielder without risking the development of fatigue.

Accordingly, a deputy for Brozovic could make the Nerazzurri’s squad more versatile and complete, and Biasin believes that this should be a profile that the club considers during the transfer window.

“I don’t think Inter need anything in the window, but they should look for a back-up for Brozovic,” he writes. “At the moment, Brozovic is a player all on his own in the squad.”
