Inter captain Samir Handanovic could stay on for next season and compete for the starting goalkeeper role with Andre Onana.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the Cameroonian’s arrival will not necessarily displace the 37-year-old from playing regularly, and that the club plan to offer him a new contract for at least one more season.

Handanovic’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June, and he has not yet decided on his future, although the Nerazzurri are ready to extend him past the summer for at least a season.

Onana will arrive on a free transfer in the summer, having been identified by the club as the long-term successor to the Slovenian.

However, Handanovic could still stay on and play for the starting role while Onana settles in, and the club are ready to offer him this chance as part of a new deal.
