Italian football fans have been warned by the government that they must adhere to Covid-19 protocols within stadiums or risk more behind closed doors matches, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport today, stadiums have already seen their maximum capacities reduced from 75% to 50% in order to combat the spread of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.

The Italian government now wants to make it categorically clear that fans must not be seated in large groups together and must attempt to maintain social distancing.

Fans are also expected to be wearing a proper face mask at all times in the stadium as that is another way to help limit the spread of the virus.

If these measures are not adhered to by fans and case levels continue to rise then there is a serious risk of matches being played in empty stadiums once again.
