Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has said that a new Covid-19 protocol has been discussed with the Lega Council and will be communicated soon, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.

Speaking to DAZN during what should have been Inter’s match with Bologna on Thursday, via FCInternews, Beppe Marotta explained that a meeting has been held with the Lega Council to adjust the Covid-19 protocol to the current situation.

As it stands, local health authorities have the power to stop teams from playing matches in their area but this conflicts with the stance taken by Serie A.

“We recently concluded a Lega Council in which the protocol was adapted to the current situation and will be communicated soon. We are witnessing a somewhat confusing situation where the peripheral ASLs have the power to decide.

“Health protection is a priority, but ASL’s decide autonomously and we’ve seen that Hellas Verona has gone to La Spezia with 10 positive cases and other teams are blocked with fewer positives. We must create a discussion table with the Ministry of Sport and the Government to define a common protocol.”

Beppe Marotta described Inter’s trip down to Bologna on Thursday as useless but said the players still had to do some physical training whilst there.

“It was a duty to do some physical activity today, clearly it would not be a good day to train properly.”

When asked about whether players should be first to have the third shot of the Covid-19 vaccination, Beppe Marotta showed that he is in favour of such measures as it would help everyone.

“I believe it is an obligatory stance to reduce the damage when there are positive cases and above all it would make playing more fluid because the close-contact quarantine would be removed.”

When asked about whether he will speak to FIFA and UEFA about moving international games to June, he said: “It is one of the assessments that we will have to make in the coming days.”
