Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is likely to miss the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Lazio on Sunday through suspension.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Turk’s suspension will likely be carried over after the team did not play the match against Bologna yesterday which he was set to miss.
Calhanoglu picked up a booking against Torino during the Nerazzurri’s last match before the winter break, meaning that he would be suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards.
The 27-year-old was set to miss the Nerazzurri’s away match against the Rossoblu as the first match back from the break, but the fixture was not played as the home side were unable to show up due to orders from their regional health authority.
It remains to be seen how the league deals with the situation, as the Rossoblu did not attend the match due to an order by the health authority based on the high number of COVID cases in their squad.
Should the league decide that the Rossoblu had forfeited the match and award Inter a 3-0 win by default, then that will be considered to have been the match in which Calhanoglu served his suspension.
However, this is not likely to be the case, and more probable is that the Sporting Judge will decide to postpone the fixture.
In this case, the match against Lazio will be the first one after the Torino clash, and will be the match in which Calhanoglu serves his one-match suspension.
