Barcelona are ready to go head-to-head with Inter over the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Mathias Ginter on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

This according to Bild journalist Christian Falk, speaking to the Bayern Insider podcast via FCInterNews, who reported that the Blaugranas are set to rival the Nerazzurri for the 28-year-old’s signature.

Ginter has officially announced that he will not renew his contract with Gladbach, which expires at the end of June, and will instead depart from the Bundesliga club at the end of the season.

The German’s availability on a free transfer for next season has attracted the interest of a number of top clubs, although so far the Nerazzurri look to have been the side with the firmest interest.

This could change, however, as Barcelona have now emerged as major rivals for the defender’s signature, and if the Catalan giants prove to be serious in their interest could pose a major obstacle to the player’s signing for Inter.
