Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is happy to represent the Nerazzurri, and feels that having won the Scudetto with the club makes it an even bigger point of pride.

Speaking in the matchday program for tomorrow’s Serie A clash with Lazio, as reported by FCInterNews, the Dutchman reflected on the personal significance of playing for Inter and also looked back on a great memory.

De Vrij joined Inter from Lazio in the summer of 2018, and he has gone on to cement a place for himself at the heart of the Nerazzurri’s defense.

The 29-year-old played a key role in the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto win last season, and he has remained a key figure in the backline this time around.

De Vrij feels honoured to have been able to help Inter get back to the top of Serie A after eleven years without a league triumph, and it’s made playing for the club even more special to him.

“For me Inter are a great team,” he stated, “they represent passion, work, sacrifice. Wearing this shirt is an honour, especially with the Scudetto shield on the front.”

As his favourite match played in an Inter shirt, the defender named the 4-2 derby victory over AC Milan in February 2020.

He characterized it as “An epic derby and an extraordinary comeback. It took a combination of heart, determination, and grit to achieve.”

“We went down by two goals,” he recalled, “but in the second half we mounted attack after attack, and the comeback was kicked off by Brozovic’s goal before I also scored a goal to seal it – it was an incredible moment.”
