Former Inter coach Ilario Castagner believes that current Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi is a tactician of the highest level.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Derbyderbyderby.it, the 81-year-old identified Inzaghi’s tactical work as the reason behind the Nerazzurri’s excellent form so far this season.

Inzaghi had established a strong reputation for himself within Italian football due to his work in charge of Lazio for more than five seasons, and Inter identified him as the right man to lead the club after the departure of Antonio Conte.

So far, the 45-year-old’s ideas have looked perfectly suited to the Nerazzurri’s squad, and have gotten the team to the point where they are able to fight at the very top of the Serie A table.

Inter reclaimed top spot from city rivals AC Milan with a victory over Lazio yesterday evening, and for Castagner the team owe the position they’re in to the system instilled by their coach.

“I have always been convinced they were the best team,” he said of the Nerazzurri. “The secret has been their coach – Inzaghi is a brilliant tactician.”

“In Rome, with Lazio, he proved it over and over,” he went on. “Now is his moment, Milan can rival them right now Inter look to have another gear.”
