Inter-owned Monza defender Lorenzo Pirola underwent knee surgery successfully earlier this morning.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 19-year-old had the operation performed on the meniscus of his right knee by Inter club doctor Piero Volpi.

Pirola had suffered a sprain in the meniscus of his right knee while on international duty with the Italian Under-19 team, and it was determined that he needed an operation to correct the problem.

The teenage defender had an anthroscopic meniscectopy performed successfully, though it remains to be seen what the impact will be or what his timeline is for recovery from the procedure.

Pirola has been on-loan with Monza in Serie B for the first half of the season, although he has struggled to break into the regular starting eleven for the club, and it remains to be seen what his future will be and what the impact of his knee surgery will end up being.
