Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti feels that Inter showed their hunger to maintain their place at the top of the Serie A table in their win over Lazio yesterday evening in Serie A.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti praised the Nerazzurri for their committed display and the desire they displayed.

Inter went into their clash with the Biancocelesti temporarily two points behind city rivals AC Milan, albeit with two games in hand, after the Rossoneri’s emphatic win over Venezia earlier in the day.

A response was needed from the Nerazzurri to reclaim top spot in the table, and they managed it with a composed performance on both sides of the ball, controlling possession and the tempo and creating far more chances than they conceded.

What impressed Sconcerti the most, however, was the intensity and hunger on display from Inter’s players.

“Inter showed consistency in their match against Lazio even if they weren’t at their brilliant best,” he writes.

“Replacing Calhanoglu with Gagliardini is a feat,” he goes on, “not necessarily in terms of their quality, as Gagliardini is a fine player, but in terms of the stylistic differences between them and the effect on the team.”

Sconcerti writes that “Inter were the big team who had the trickiest opponent this weekend. They won an important match because they had more hunger and desire. They didn’t have to get lucky.”

“They conceded after the defenders lost the plot following a simple ball over midfield, but managed to take the lead twice in a tough match,” he adds.

Sconcerti names “Bastoni was the best player on the pitch, and then maybe Sanchez, while Lautaro was unfortunate.”
