Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes that Inter’s win over Lazio in Serie A yesterday is only the first hurdle that the team must get past in the early part of 2022.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, Condo emphasized that the difficulties against the Biancocelesti were only a preview of what’s to come for the Nerazzurri.

Inter will have known heading into January and February that they would face a pivotal few weeks for their season to start the calendar year off.

The Nerazzurri have now gotten a win over the only team to have beaten them in Serie A over the first half of the campaign in the form of Lazio, but now they are only a couple days away from a Supercoppa Italiana clash with Juventus.

Soon after, Inter will face all three of their top four rivals in Serie A, matches which could have Scudetto implications, and they must also begin their Coppa Itala campaign, and face Liverpool in the Champions League.

“Inter’s first mission of 2022 was a success, though not without complications,” Condo writes, “a reminder that the team have many hurdles to overcome.”

“Lazio were the first big one, being the only one to have taken three points off them in the first half of the season, and all three Inter defenders played a big role in making the match a dramatic one.”

He writes that “Bastoni, their best player on the night, was their sixteenth scorer in the league this season; De Vrij, the most experienced head, was chiefly responsible for the mess that Immobile took advantage of; and Skriniar, the most intense, was the one to get them back on track.”

He explains that the win over the Biancocelesti “Will have a psychological impact that is not negligible for the team. They know what the calendar has in store. They know that they must make or break.”
