Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is focused on continuing his incredible 2021 now that the new calendar year has begun, and he’s starting with the Supercoppa Italiana.

Speaking in the official matchday program for the match, the 24-year-old emphasized the importance of consolidating the Nerazzurri’s momentum from last year with a victory over Juventus.

Barella enjoyed the most fruitful year of his career so far in 2021, playing a major role in the Nerazzurri’s first Scudetto in eleven years before lifting the European Championship trophy with the Italian national team.

Now, the midfielder finds his team top of the Serie A table once again in addition to having made it to the Champions League round of sixteen, meaning more opportunities for silverware.

Before those, however, the Nerazzurri have a chance to win their first trophy of the season and of 2022, going head-to-head with Juventus for the Supercoppa Italiana.

Barella stated that “”2021 was a wonderful year, made special because of the Scudetto and our triumph at the European Championship.”

“My year ended with renewal with these colours, which makes me proud and is a great confidence boost for me,” he added.

“I came to this great team and became part of a significant project because I felt ready,” he continued, “and then with the passing of time I felt more and more that the club had its full faith behind me.”

He stated that “The project was to win and I’m happy we did so. For the future I hope to be able to win even more trophies, but now we have to focus on the present.”

“We have a lot to play for in the Supercoppa,” he reflected, “and then there is the league and the round of sixteen in the Champions League.”

Barella described the Supercoppa as “A game which I approach with a great desire to win. We must try to bring it home to start the year with a further confidence boost for us while we compete on other fruits.”

“It’s always difficult to play against Juventus,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s Supercoppa opponents, “but we must not forget that at the moment we are the Italian champions, we want this title and we’ll do everything to win it.”

He closed by emphasizing that “We will do everything we can to make our fans happy.”
