Inter are working to sign River Plate striker Julian Alvarez in the coming transfer windows, but their main competition for his signature looks set to come from city rivals AC Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are the two sides ready to go head-to-head for the 21-year-old.

Alvarez’s form with River in the Argentine league has attracted the attention of a number of major European clubs, with Inter one of the teams most keenly interested.

The 21-year-old has a release clause in his contract with the Argentine giants for €20 million which the Nerazzurri could be ready to meet, although they will still have to agree a contract with the player and beat out the competition.

Right now, according to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri have the edge over Milan in the chase for the Argentine’s signature, though the Rossoneri are still in it.
