Legendary former Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Dino Zoff feels that Inter’s position as Scudetto favourites must be considered with the condition of the possible influence of the pandemic.

Speaking to Italian news outlet JuventusNews24, Zoff named the Nerazzurri as favourites to win the Serie A title but also emphasized the role that uncertainty caused by COVID could well play.

The Nerazzurri’s scheduled clash with Bologna was one of four Serie A matches from the first round of fixtures after the winter break that had to be postponed because of COVID cases.

Now Inter have a game in hand on city rivals AC Milan as well as on Juventus and Napoli, but a potential scheduling headache, and this could potentially be made worse for them or any of their rivals should the situation shift.

Another spike in cases or an unexpected outbreak in any squad in Serie A could have a knock-on effect on the Scudetto race that helps or hurts the Nerazzurri.

“Inter are definitely the favourites for the Scudetto at the moment, but watch out for Milan,” he stated, “they don’t look like they’re going to give up.”

“This is only based on the current situation,” he added, “because we will have to see how things will be affected by this awful pandemic going forward. COVID can create many problems for teams.”
