Juventus Defender Girogio Chiellini: “Inter Favourites In The Supercoppa Italiana & For The Scudetto”

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini feels that Inter are the favourites in tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana match, and in the Scudetto race.

Speaking in a press conference as reported by FCInterNews, the defender gave the view that the Nerazzurri are the strongest team and Italy and are the team to beat in Serie A as well as favourites tomorrow evening.

Inter come into the Supercoppa match as Serie A champions, while the Bianconeri are in the match as Coppa Italia winners, having beaten the Nerazzurri on the way to winning the final against Atalanta.

The match promises to be competitive, but in Chiellini’s view, the Nerazzurri should still be seen as the team with the better chance of winning it given their quality.

However, the 37-year-old still wants to prove that the Bianconeri are capable of keeping up with Inter in a one-off match and get the win for the first piece of silverware on offer this season.

“I’ll repeat what I said before the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta in May,” he said. “In a one-off match anything can happen and, paradoxically, when you are not the favourite there is more desire to prove that you can win a trophy.”

“We know we’re not in it for the Scudetto again this year, but in a final we can prove that we are at the same level as our opponents,” he added.

He stated that “I told Bastoni in October, even when Inter were a way from the top of the table, ‘the title is still only yours to lose.’ And my prediction was proved right.”

“Only Milan are keeping pace with them,” he added, “but Inter have the superior squad. They are mature and more complete. Who knows, maybe I’m wrong, but to me they were the favourites even as early as September.”
