Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli feels that current Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is on the same level as his predecessor Antonio Conte.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the former striker gave the view that the Nerazzurri play at the same level as last season under the former coach, and credited CEO Beppe Marotta for guiding the team along with Inzaghi.

Inter had to navigate a number of challenges during a summer transfer window of upheaval, one of the major ones being the loss of Conte who departed the club at the beginning of the summer.

The current Tottenham Hotspur boss had guided the team to their first Scudetto in eleven years, and maintaining the level was never going to be easy.

In the end, Marotta identified Inzaghi as the right man for the job, and so far this season he has kept the Nerazzurri sitting on top of their perch.

Altobelli stated that “Everyone involved with this journey Inter are on deserves credit. Starting with the president, who has invested a lot since he arrived, also relying on excellent directors.”

“In this team you can still see the work of Conte, but Inzaghi has done just as well and continued the work, putting his own ideas into it. He is a great coach and a perfect choice.”

Altobelli noted that with regards to Inter’s rivalry with Juventus, “Things are changing. In recent years Juventus have  made several mistakes that have led to the end of a cycle, above all the decision to deprive themselves of Marotta.”

“It is no coincidence that Beppe’s arrival in Milan coincided with the the beginning of a winning project for the Nerazzurri,” he continued.

“It changed everything,” he explained. “Inter have a great future ahead of them, but it will not be easy for Juventus to begin again, especially because there are now several rivals for them in the top places.”

Of tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana clash with the Bianconeri, he stated that “Inter have won eight games in a row, Juventus produced a great comeback against Roma.”

“Both are in good form, but I see the Nerazzurri as favourites for how they’ve played all season,” he predicted, “and also because Juventus will appear in Milan with some absences, above all that of Chiesa.”

“It will be a great match to watch,” he anticipated, “the rivalry is always intense and the tension will be high. The stakes are important, so both teams will give their best.”

Of this Inter side Altobelli stated that “The strength of this team is in the collective and their last match made this clear.”

“Everyone gives their best and are placed in a context well-suited to the characteristics of each player,” he added.

“Calhanoglu is certainly an important player for this team,” the former striker said, “but we are talking about a final, and it can be decided by anyone, especially taking into account the many resources that Inzaghi has at his disposal.”

For tomorrow’s match he feels that “The psychological factor matters a lot. What will not matter is how the recent form of the teams, as it’s a one-off match and it doesn’t matter what you did on Sunday before.”

Altobelli concluded that “Winning this match would undoubtedly give new motivation and mental strength to a team.”
